Ad Views: The number of times a banner ad is clicked on by a Web site visitor.
Autoresponder: An e-mail system that automatically responds to inquiries.
Banner Ad: A picture used to attract interest on a Web site. Similar to a block advertisement in the classifieds. Clicking on the banner ad will take you to that advertisers website.
Baud rate: A measurement of how fast fax machines and modems transmit data.
Browser: Software that allows users to view websites.
Chat: A forum that allows Internet users to communicate in real time.
Cyberspace: Term used to describe the online world.
Domain name: Plain language used as an address for a Web site. Also called a URL or Web site address.
Download: The transfer of a file from one computer to another.
E-Mail: Electronic mail. Sending and receiving written messages via the Internet.
E-Zine: An online magazine or newsletter.
FAQ: Frequently Asked Question
FTP: File Transfer Protocol. Allows the transfer of files over the Internet.
Hit: A recorded visit to a website.
Home Page: The main page of a website. Typically the first page viewed. Also called the index or default page.
Host: A computer that allows other computers to access its files.
HTML: HyperText Markup Language. Text that tells the computer how to display the webpage.
Hypertext: Also known as a link. Code that allows you to click on a word or image that takes you to another place on the Web.
Search Engine: Website with a searchable database containing information about Internet sites.
Service Provider: A service that provides a connection between individuals and the Internet.
Spamming: Unethical, unsolicited and/or unwanted commercial messages sent via e-mail.
Upload: Putting a file onto a webserver for others to use.
Web site: A collection of files (text and graphics) that can be found online under one domain name.
